Despite the fact that all the cities in France are charming, not all of them are. St. Brieuc, on the lovely northern coast of Brittany and situated in a series of interlocking hills and rivers, has the Hausmanmian charm of a faded 2010 pre-fab suburban development seen in the year 2050. Because it is also tiny, the local politicians decided to add draconian traffic and pedestrian control measures, with inexplicable and generally dangerous double roundabouts next to impossible to traverse center medians. You may not want to go anywhere, but it will take a long time to get there.

Still, they show some VO there, and it’s not too terribly far. Cinema Club 6 is not far from Maison Diener, run down, but probably the only decent cake place in town. Ah, now the secret reason for hatred is revealed!
