Damsels In Distress
Stub #1
For the sake of actually writing a single paragraph on a film, instead of a single paragraph that degenerates into a two week long hair-pull of ranting, let me say I liked Damsels in Distress.
I have not enjoyed the previous films of Mr. Whit Stillman, but I did this, perversely because it’s the most Stillman-esque of his films, the one he was waiting to make (which is why it, like Lebowski, Naked Lunch and Vertigo before it, will probably be ignored). It is truly its own universe, with characters who have absolute faith in themselves, and direct the action rather than fight against the current of the Deus. Everyone is nuts, everyone is missing a piece of information, and everyone is relentlessly positive. I don’t trust critics, so I’ll let the film review itself: ‘I adore optimism, especially when it’s completely absurd, perhaps especially then.’
Crap. Almost made it. I was so close. Damn return key.
