American Sniper

Maybe someday I'll write about this baffler, but what surprised me most was how fucking dull it was.  I read about how racist, yawn and so on, but this is just lousy filmmaking. Training is hard, they yell, he meets a girl, the girl rejects someone else, he wins her a bear at the fair, then 9/11, which was a scene in every TV show and movie in the last ten years, including, weirdly, The Big Short.   Add this to Eastwood's tendency to show everything, including them lying in bed and doing nothing. I'm surprised that there wasn't a scene of them driving up to Iraq, parking in front of Iraq, getting out of the car in Iraq. I don't mind that there are millions of people who love war.  I love war in movies,  so that kinda counts.  What bothers me is that they love war so much that they see this movie as even vaguely tolerable.  I'd be worried if they vote.
