Will Feminism Give Me Cuter Boyfriends?

Whatever wave of feminism we’re on (remind me: how do waves go backwards again?), we can at least agree that films of late have not been kind to female characters. Yes, they get to be leads, and sometimes they even talk about things that are not their boyfriends. This is progress, they say, and would be, were it not for the fact that they have no agency or stake in the story. In this case, we speak of the him or him question of the recent spate of teensies (and also targeted at the teensies) films where we see a lot of the girl…deciding which boy to pick. The indecision, usually drawn out over several films, weakens any backbone she might have, and also makes her a bit of a cunt. Don’t worry. It’s okay for me to say that, because I am a person who thinks it’s true.
