The various green types think that we can power the whole world with solar…as long as we don’t have to overcome the natural resistance of copper to transmit the energy to where it needs to go. Or that all cars should be electric…since we only have enough of the rare metals that the batteries require for a few million, or that we could be green nuclear…if only we discount the fact that there’s only enough U-238 to power the earth’s needs for about a year.

People don’t like the 2nd law of thermodynamics; possibly this was the inconvenient truth of a man who spoke of the environment from an enormous constantly lit house containing four children. Our ignorance of this basic building block of physics will lead to the end of the species sure, but it’s especially irritating in movies. Hence, the rule.
