Come back to the five and dime Jackie Chan Jackie Chan

This refers to the increasing tendency for action scenes to be generated by banks of hard drives and our correlative tendency to be bored.

Jackie Chan does his own stunts and that’s cool, but more importantly it’s metaphorical. More importantly, because I’ve found a way to make Jackie Chan boring.

The point is we see him do it. When we see a digital puppet gets rendered, we feel some admiration for the programmer and that’s about it. M. AndrĂ© Bazin pointed out that the magic of the single shot was the tension of seeing reality unfold. Now that the single shot is digitally rendered, the reason behind it is rendered moot.

Sorry stuntfolks, I know you’re risking your life. But it’s to alleviate my boredom!
